Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PEO) statement on developments in Palestine 9 October 2023
Humanity is following with great concern the dramatic developments and the tragic consequences of the conflicts in Israel and Palestine that threaten to ignite the volatile region of the Middle East.
There is no doubt that the root cause of the deteriorating situation and this new bloody cycle is the ongoing Israeli occupation and the daily crimes and human rights violations that have been committed against the Palestinian people for years.
The only option for peace and security to prevail for both the peoples of Palestine and Israel, but also for the peoples of the wider region of the Middle East, is an immediate end to the Israeli occupation and colonisation as provided for in the resolutions of the United Nations, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
We express our support and together with the working people throughout the world we stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people until the vindication of their struggle.
