On the occasion of 29th November, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, PEO expresses its solidarity towards its heroic struggle and just demands for a free and independent Palestine.
The state of Israel, despite the decisions and resolutions of the UN, with the tolerance of the US and the use of force, continues provoking the death of civilians and colonalising Palestinian territories, while the erection of the racist wall remains a shame for humanity.
The unacceptable decision of the US and President Trump to recognize the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was followed by President Trump’s presentation of the “Deal of the Century” which essentially aims to legalize the illegal settlements and annexation by Israel of the occupied Palestinian territories of the Jordan Valley.
The European Union should act more decisively since the policy of equal distances enables the Government of Israel to continue its policies of colonization and consolidation of the fait accompli of the occupation.
The choice of the Anastasiades government to align our country in thee US-Israel plans for the Eastern Mediterranean poses risks and not more security for our country and people. Our country’s foreign policy should be based on the principles of international law. The role of Cyprus is upgraded when it acts as a bridge of peace and cooperation for the peoples of the region.
Today, with the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, support and solidarity towards the struggling peoples is becoming even more important
At this critical juncture, the PEO expresses once again its support for the just demands of the Palestinian people:
- For the recognition of an independent and viable Palestinian State on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as defined in the relevant UN Resolutions.
- For an immediate end to the Israeli occupation.
- For the dismantling of the illegal settlements and the safeguarding the right of return of the Palestinian refugees.
- For the release of all the Palestinian political prisoners.
