The struggle being waged by the French working people concerns all workers, the General Secretary of PEO, Sotiroula Charalambous pointed out, at a symbolic event of solidarity with French working people, which PEO organised yesterday outside the French Embassy in Nicosia.

“The Pancyprian Federation of Labour PEO is here today with a group of its militants to express our support and solidarity with the French working people, who have been on the streets for some time now, combating this anti-people and anti-social measures, which the Macron government is promoting in an arbitrary and dictatorial manner in its efforts to increase the retirement age,” Sotiroulla Charalambous said.

The General Secretary of PEO went on to note that this is a struggle that does not just concern French working people. “It concerns all working people, it concerns all societies, because the policy of dealing with social insurance issues by reducing benefits and extending the retirement age is a policy that we have seen being implemented in all the countries under the neoliberal dictates of Brussels,” she stressed.

Furthermore, the General Secretary of PEO noted that the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), of which PEO is one of its founding members, has called on all countries of the world on this day for working people to rally their forces to express solidarity with French workers, “because the struggle of one is the struggle of all of us, just as the victories of one are victories of all working people,” she pointed out.
