The Working Women’s Bureau of PEO is organizing a mass campaign on the 8th of March International Women’s Day under the slogan “No to exploitation in Working places”.
The campaign begun with hundreds of contacts and assemblies being organized at workplaces and the Working Women’s Department of PEO offered working women the established red carnation.
On the 5th of March a delegation of the Working Women’s Department of PEO headed by the General Secretary of PEO visited the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority Offices in Nicosia and met with the working women. During the meeting the General Secretary of PEO expressed the commitment of the Federation to continue the struggles for equality, combating discrimination at work and supporting the working family.
On the 4th and 5th of March PEO Working Women’s Department exchanged delegations with the corresponding Working Women’s Departments of the Turkish Cypriot trade union organizations of DEV-IS,KTOS,KTOEOS,BES,DAU-SEN,KTAMS,KOOP-SEN all members of WFTU and visits took place with the participation of working women. During the visits, the working members of the organisations expressed the need to step up joint actions that will contribute to the rapprochement and the effort to reunite and solve the Cyprus issue as well as the need to address the common problems facing workers.
On the 6th of March PEO Working Women’s Department was one of the organizers of the initiative “It is the time”. During the initiative all working women of Cyprus went on an hour strike and participated at the human chain outside public services offices.
On the 7th of March SEVETTYK PEO participated in Commerce Workers’ International Action Day and organized retail shops and called workers to join the unions.
